Gaylene retired December 31, 2019 from Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City after 30 years.  As the Director of Community Health and Access, she and her staff provided programming and educational opportunities by working in collaboration with other community resources.  These efforts were designed to improve the quality of health/wellness of community members with a special emphasis on the uninsured and economically poor.

She was also responsible for coordinating the efforts of a Community Health Needs Assessment and a Community Health Improvement Plan for each Mercy Hospital (9) in Oklahoma every 3 years.  She also provided the narrative for the 990 tax report for each hospital every year.

Gaylene served on numerous non-profit boards over the years and continues to serve on the Public Health Institute of Oklahoma (PHIO).  She is also an active member of some community groups such as the Wellness Alliance of Central Oklahoma, Turning Point, VillagesOKC, and a women’s coffee group. Gaylene holds a BS from Southern Nazarene University (formerly BNC) and a Masters’ in Gerontology from University of Central Oklahoma.  She keeps busy with quilting/sewing projects, reading, and her two grandsons.

WHAT IS A VILLAGE?

First of all, this Village is not an actual village. It is not a real estate development or a retirement community. It is a group of like-minded 50-Plus people in a geographic area who come together and develop the resources they will need to age comfortably in their own homes.  Villages bring services to people rather than moving people to services – neighbors helping neighbors create networks of support and reduced-cost professional services.
