Jeni Merrick-Baker, Au.D is a clinical audiologist and owner of Ears of Oklahoma. She completed her undergraduate studies at Oklahoma City University, received her doctorate in audiology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and completed her residency at the Hough Ear Institute in Oklahoma City. From 1999 to 2020, Dr. Merrick-Baker was a clinical audiologist helping patients with vestibular disorders and hearing loss. She recently opened her own practice in Oklahoma City, Ears of Oklahoma, which serves the Oklahoma City metro and surrounding areas with services including diagnostic testing, hearing aids and cerumen removal, hearing rehabilitation, hearing conservation, and concierge hearing services. In addition to her practice in Oklahoma City, Dr. Baker has a practice in Ardmore, Oklahoma that serves Carter County.

6-19-21: Dr. Germaine Odenheimer is a Geriatric Neurologist, and Herb Magley, former caregiver

In the OSJ Radio Studio’s this Saturday morning 6/19/21 at 9:05am on KZLS The Eagle 🦅 1640 – Dr. Germaine Odenheimer is a Geriatric Neurologist, Professor Emeritus at OU College of Medicine and the inspiration behind the New Alzheimer’s/Dementia Memory Garden, Opening Saturday June 26th at 10am starting at the conservatory in the non-profit Friends of Will Rogers Gardens.

Home made refreshments, ribbon-cutting and a tour of the Memory Gardens will be included in this GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION – June 26, 2021 at 10am. 

Also pictured in the OSJ Radio Studio this Saturday morning is Herb MAGLEY as a former caregiver to his wife & best friend with early onset Alzheimer’s at age 54 Herb was her caregiver for 11 years. Herb let’s us know about 200,000 Oklahomans are either suffering with a dementia or caring for those loved ones with dementia. Herb has started 7 support groups here in Oklahoma City, including 1 for those living with Alzheimer’s. Herb the country giving speeches to thousands of caregivers dealing with various dementias.

Dr. Germaine Odenheimer  is a Geriatric Neurologist, Professor Emeritus at OU College of Medicine, Master Gardener and Advocate for those suffering with dementia.  She cared for her mother with dementia who is the inspiration for this garden. She was faculty at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, University of South Carolina and Harvard Medical School before joining OU College of Medicine to develop a geriatric curriculum for medical students.

She serves as advisor to the State Council on Aging and Long Term Care Ombudsman sub-committee, provides ongoing support to Alzheimer’s support groups and has been named to Oklahoma’s “Healthy Brain Initiative Coalition.”

 

Herb Magley has lost 5 family members to Alzheimer’s, including his best friend and wife, diagnosed at age 54.  Herb was so profoundly affected on their 11-year journey that he became a passionate supporter of Alzheimer’s family caregivers.  At his own cost, he has travelled the country giving speeches of support to thousands of Alzheimer’s caregivers.  He was elected to the local Alzheimer’s Assn Board and serves on the Advocacy Committee, meeting with our legislators to increase research funding to find a cure.  Herb chaired the OKC “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” the major fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association, and has started 7 support groups in OKC.

Denise Osborn Dickerson is a resident of Mustang, OK. She was born and raised in the Oklahoma Panhandle and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 2003 from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. She is a former 4th grade teacher. Denise is the mother of two sons:  Kyle, who is 28, married, and living in Odessa, TX. And another precious son who perished in a tragic car accident in 2009.  On December 23, 2011, Denise suffered a car accident of her own. She was crushed between two vehicles while stopping to help a stranded family. While lingering between life and death at a trauma center in Amarillo TX, she saw and spoke with her 15 year old son, Kody, in Heaven. Listen to her amazing story!

She lost her foot due to this accident. Eleven months later, Denise walked a distance for the first time since the accident…down the aisle of her wedding to long-time fiancé, Guy Dickerson, who had been with her through the death of Kody and the life-changing accident. She will go through an additional surgery for amputation from the knee down and will be fitted for a new prosthetic this year. Denise speaks publicly about her inspirational story of love, loss, and survival and the impact on her live and faith. She is also an ambassador for the Oklahoma Blood Institute.  Her story has inspired hundreds of others to give the gift of life.
