Our Story

Roughly 35 years ago, my mother became a caregiver for my grandmother. It was then we discovered the vast amount of information —and misinformation— about caring for an elderly family member. As a family, we navigated, researched and went through many trials and errors to find solutions that best fit my grandmother’s needs. It was through this phase that the Oklahoma Senior Journal became my life’s work and mission to help others avoid some of the pitfalls and confusion that arises with aging.

My father, Gordon Gunn, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s during the 15th year of the Oklahoma Senior Journal. It has been a hard road for our family, but having the connections in our community along with the knowledge gained, we were blessed with support and opportunities that might have been missed.

I’ve learned so much while also loving so much through this experience. It’s through my personal experiences and through the stories of others I meet that I’m inspired constantly to continue the OSJ. I appreciate what I have been blessed with and what I have to give back.
